Simply Injectables

Prepping for a filler appointment at Simply Injectables?

At Simply Injectables we have 30 minutes designated for each appointment. Please arrive on time. Some filler appointments require a 10-minute numbing period. All appointments require careful assessment, education and time for a procedure. Here are some tips for before and after your appointment.

Before

It is totally okay to come in empty handed and wanting our assessment of what can be improved. We are happy to educate on what procedures are available for a certain concern. It can be helpful to bring a few photos of yourself or of a particular look you like on someone else. Do a quick google search. Try to avoid alcohol, fish oil, flax seed oil, multivitamins, NSAIDs such as Ibuprofen and aspirin for 24-72 hours prior to your appointment. Avoiding these things prevents the likelihood of bruising during your appointment.

During

During your appointment at Simply Injectables, you will be educated on each procedure’s risks, benefits, and possible side effects. We will ask questions to guide our assessment. We will take before photos. We will discuss the plan for the day and for future appointments. After a plan is agreed upon, we will begin the procedure. Unpleasant reactions that could occur during your appointment include localized pain, mild swelling, tenderness, redness, and/or bleeding/bruising. Needle-related pain and/or anxiety may result in vasovagal responses (including e.g., syncope, hypotension), which may require medical attention from your injector. A majority of filler appointments are quick, easy and almost painless.

After

With dermal filler, bruising is quite common. To reduce the chances of bruising, be sure to avoid drinking alcohol and engaging in activities that cause enlargement of blood vessels, such as direct sunlight, steam rooms, saunas, and strenuous exercise for 24-48 hours. All of these activities have the ability to cause additional bruising. The best makeup for covering bruises is Dermablend. Arnica Montana and Bromelain are naturopathic supplements that help breakdown bruises faster. Arnica and Bromelain may be taken up to 3 days prior to your filler appointment and up to 7 days after your filler appointment.

Because most dermal filler is made up of hyaluronic acid, swelling is also common. Sleep slightly elevated if you’d like to avoid additional swelling. It is OK to use a cool compress on the skin. Avoid direct skin contact with ice because it can cause burns. It is also okay to use a warm washcloth to massage gently. Any lumps, bumps, or small needle marks should subside within a few days.

Do not receive dermal filler if you:

  • You have an active skin injection, including cold sores.
  • Are pregnant or breast-feeding.
  • Have had reactions to Juvéderm in the past.
  • Have an allergy to lidocaine.
  • Have a history of keloid scarring.
  • Within two weeks of vaccines or dental work
  • Have a current skin infection
  • Sinusitis, dental disease, ear/nose/throat infections
  • History of HIV, lupus, RA (immunosuppression)

Please tell your injector if you are taking one of the following medications:

  • Aminoglycoside antibiotics (may increase effects of botulinum toxin)
  • Chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine (may reduce effect)
  • Blood thinning agents like warfarin or aspirin (may result in bruising)
